Belmont
Elementary Schools Restorations + Additions, Boston, Mass.
In
a Boston suburb, the addition and renovation of 120,000 s.f. ($12 million)
focused on developing a language with a kit of parts that would contextually
work with traditional New England Architecture. The use of brick, dryvit and
precast concrete forms were weaved into details of the new architecture for
both school districts. New class rooms and resource centers were the major
form givers.
(Full Service for two schools.)
Wana
Institute of Graduate Studies. Tyngsborough, Mass.
The
architectural intent for this 80,000 s.f. addition + restoration was to express
the high tech nature of the "21st century classroom" in a scheme
that reflected the unique vision of the Institute. The existing building,
once a monastic seminary , was integrated into the overall plan. The design
created an actual campus, which sandwiched the exsisting structure. The large
lecture hall acts as the primary visual anchor. Granite, precast banding,
and brick linked the new with the old while preserving the emphasis on the
larger centerpiece.
